Robyn Stremler earns prestigious
Canadian Sleep Society recognition

The Canadian Sleep Society (CSS) selected Bloomberg Nursing assistant professor Dr. Robyn Stremler as the recipient of the 2011 Roger Broughton Young Investigator Award. Stremler is a nurse scientist, specializing in sleep research. Her work aims to improve sleep and health outcomes for parents, infants and children, through pregnancy and beyond. Few health care professionals are trained in sleep research, and nurses are especially underrepresented in this field. Notably, Stremler developed a behavioural-educational sleep intervention to improve maternal and infant sleep in the postpartum period and published evidence of its effectiveness in the journal SLEEP. STUDENTS

Bloomberg Nursing students
hold annual CNSA conference

The Lawrence S. Bloomberg Faculty of Nursing hosted the regional Canadian Nursing Students' Association (CNSA) 2011 Ontario Regional Conference October 21st - 23rd, 2011. This was made possible by our nursing students' regional planning committee, who were successful in their bid to bring the event to U of T. The annual conference brings together hundreds of students from nursing faculties across the province, providing an opportunity to visit local facilities, network and explore a variety of professional opportunities. Students also had the opportunity to hear from some of the field's most influential leaders, including keynote speaker Dr. Sean Clarke, Bloomberg Nursing associate professor and RBC Chair in Cardiovascular Nursing Research. Annual dean's welcome breakfast provides
healthy diet of food and conversation

Each year, after having about a month to settle in to the program and their initial clinical placements, first-year BScN students are invited to the dean's welcome breakfast so everyone can get to know each other on a personal level. View photo gallery

GREEN INITIATIVES

U of T goes bottled water-free

As of the beginning of this fall, bottled water will no longer be sold at the majority of locations on the St. George campus, while sales at U of T Mississauga and Scarborough will be phased out over the next three years. The move away from bottled water and the promotion of the return to tap water is the result of a campaign begun about three years ago by the Public Water Initiative, a campus student group committed to the issue for environmental and social justice reasons.
